Learn traditional indigo dyeing techniques and pattern-making methods as you create your very own original handkerchief design.
Using items such as marbles, clothespins, chopsticks, and film cases, you’ll try different patterns and shapes.
After designing, repeatedly dip and rinse the fabric in indigo dye to bring out its beautiful color — then package it to complete your work!
Your finished handkerchief will make a perfect Japanese souvenir to take home.

Goldfish scooping, a beloved part of Japanese summer festivals, uses a delicate paper scooper called a “poi.”
Because the paper easily tears when wet, it requires patience and gentle movements.
Through this experience, participants can also learn to appreciate the fragility and preciousness of life — moving slowly, softly, and quietly so the goldfish are not harmed or stressed.
Listen to the rules of kingyo-sukui and enjoy this charming part of Japanese festival culture.
(Please note: the goldfish you catch will be released afterward and cannot be taken home.)
